A Day in The Life at New Leaf Recovery: What to Expect in Rehab

Choosing to start rehabilitative therapy can be a daunting experience; it takes a great deal of strength and courage to take that first step towards helping yourself or a loved one overcome an addiction. That’s why here at New Leaf, we aim to make our rehabilitative treatment plans as caring and flexible as possible.

Whilst our treatment plans vary, from 7-day programmes to 28-day programmes, to entirely bespoke programmes that fit around you, we deliver a complete recovery journey for all our clients for effective long-term recovery. From initial detoxification and rehabilitation to sustained aftercare, here’s what to expect when you start one of our rehabilitative treatment plans here at New Leaf.

A day in the life at new leaf

Your First Day at New Leaf Recovery

Your journey at New Leaf will start with an introduction to our caring and compassionate staff, where you will be welcomed to our secure residential setting. This will allow you to bed-in and feel comfortable for the start of your journey with us. We will then gently guide you through an initial detoxification period. This will help cleanse your body of intoxicants and addictive behaviours, laying the foundations for the rest of your treatment.

Our staff, who possess personal lived experience of addiction and rehabilitative therapy, will be there with you every step of the way, providing around-the-clock support to help make the transition for you as comforting as possible. Any withdrawal symptoms will be manged carefully and attentively, and to aid in this first step, specialist medication may be offered to help you through the transition, monitored by medical professionals.

After starting this initial detox phase, our staff will then run you through a programme that is designed to help your recovery in the long-term. This may be one of our standardised programmes of fixed length, or an entirely bespoke plan designed to fit around your individual needs and commitments.

The Next Steps

After the initial detox phase, you will then begin the rehabilitative treatment plan laid out for you. This may be our fixed 12-step programme, or a bespoke mix of different therapies. These are designed to address both the physical dependence and the underlying reasons behind your addiction, helping to prevent relapses in the future.

Our Rehabilitative Therapies

Your day-to-day life at New Leaf may therefore vary considerably; we don’t believe in a one-shoe fits all approach here at New Leaf. These therapies will help you to build effective coping strategies for managing your recovery, helping you to deal with physical and mental withdrawal symptoms along your path to a full recovery.

Rehabilitation Counselling

Alongside these therapeutic treatments, a significant portion of your day will also consist of counselling sessions to help treat mental and behavioural factors. These may be individual one-on-one sessions with one of our dedicated staff members, or a group session with others who are also undergoing recovery at New Leaf.

Groups at New Leaf Recovery take place in a private, comfortable, and non-judgmental setting. A qualified facilitator leads the sessions, ensuring all clients have the opportunity to share and receive feedback from their peers.

These sessions can particularly help with issues such as trauma, bereavement, and other emotional challenges you may be facing that are linked to addiction.

Combined, these treatments will provide the firm building blocks needed for you to make a sustained recovery that will extend past your stay with us here at New Leaf.

Family Support

Addiction isn't just a struggle for the individual – it can deeply affect family members too. At New Leaf Recovery, we recognise the pain and confusion family members can often experience when their loved ones undergo treatment. That's why we also offer a Carer's Forum for you and your family during your time with us. Here, you'll find a supportive environment led by our staff members for you and your family to come to terms with your addiction.

Our Carer's Forum

  • Gain Insight: We'll provide you with valuable information about addiction itself, helping you understand its causes and effects.
  • Demystifying treatment: If you ever feel confused with the direction or purpose of your treatment, we'll be on hand to answer all of your questions and shed light on our daily programs, giving you peace of mind.
  • Finding Support: You won’t be alone during your time with us. Connect with other family members who share your experience. You will be able to share your struggles, ask questions, and offer support in a judgment-free zone.

We keep our Carer's Forum groups intentionally small. This allows for open sharing if you feel comfortable, but there's absolutely no pressure to speak.  Whether you choose to participate in discussions or simply listen and learn, you will be welcomed to continually this supportive space.

Rehab Aftercare

Once you’ve successfully completed the course of your treatment plan, New Leaf will still be there with you to guide you throughout the rest of your recovery. We understand that full recovery doesn’t conclude once you leave us. That’s why we offer an aftercare programme designed to help you and your family adjust to life post-rehab.

We understand that you might have work, family, or other responsibilities after residential treatment, and so to accommodate for this, many of our clients choose to come to New Leaf once or twice a week and participate in full days of group sessions, amongst other therapies.

Aftercare isn't just an extra step – it's the key to lasting recovery. It keeps you moving forward and provides the support you need to stay clean and sober. Studies show that people who complete aftercare and stay involved in programs like 12-step meetings have a significantly higher success rate.

We understand that early sobriety can be tough; new challenges arise, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed by them.  Aftercare helps you navigate these hurdles and put the tools you learned during your time with us into daily practice.
